The 2nd annual Start Alberta Tech Awards recognize both individuals and organizations for their contributions to Alberta’s innovation ecosystem and those making a significant impact on the province’s tech sector.

2019 Winner: Anthea Sargeaunt, CEO at 2S Water



Awarded to a dynamic early stage founder for their coachability, community involvement and ability to launch a technology-focused company.


Most Significant Cross-Community Collaboration of the Year

2019 Winner: Mehadi Sayed, Clinisys and John Murphy, Stream Technologies



Awarded to the year’s most significant cross-community collaboration which has moved the ecosystem forward.

 

Fast Growth Award (Under $5M) presented by BDC

2019 Winner: G2V Optics



Awarded to a tech companies that have demonstrated the highest annual revenue growth (under $5M).

Ecosystem Supporter of the Year presented by Bennett Jones

Awarded to an individual that has gone above and beyond for the venture capital and technology ecosystems in Alberta.

 

A100 One to Watch presented by the A100

2019 Winner: Mikata Health



Awarded to an early-stage company that is up-and-coming and most likely to succeed., as voted by the A100 membership. A collection of early-stage companies considered for this award was compiled from Launch Party companies from Startup Calgary and Startup Edmonton.

 

Tech Investor of the Year presented by Alberta Enterprise Corporation

2019 Winner: Derrick Hunter, Bluesky Equities



Awarded to an individual or investment firm that has displayed the best investment acumen over the last year in Alberta’s tech sector.

 

Tech Deal of the Year

2019 Winner: Attabotics



Awarded to the tech company who has raised the largest amount of capital in its most recent fundraising round.

 

Most Significant Tech Transaction of the Year presented by PwC Canada

2019 Winner: Solium



Awarded to the tech company that has had the most significant acquisition or exit.

 

This collaborative initiative was brought to life by seven organizations who believe in Alberta’s innovation ecosystem including the A100, Alberta Enterprise Corporation, Bennett Jones, BDC, PwC Canada, Startup Calgary, Startup Edmonton, TEC Edmonton, Technology Alberta and the Venture Capital Association of Alberta (VCAA).
