About Start Alberta

StartAlberta.com was created by AEC, the VCAA and the A100 to connect investors and Alberta tech companies and is now managed by the VCAA and Platform Calgary.StartAlberta fills a void within the Alberta ecosystem, as a free and open-source central dealflow directory for entrepreneurs, investors and external stakeholders, to connect with each other and find investment.

Beyond providing a comprehensive list of tech deal flow in the province, the platform provides a critical forum for telling Alberta’s entrepreneurial successes story and enticing investors both internal and external to Alberta to invest in what Alberta has to offer. Data partnerships developed through Start Alberta ensure startups gain international exposure.

About VCAA

The Venture Capital Association of Alberta is the primary industry association for venture capital, private equity, angel investors and others interested in furthering the industry in Alberta.

The VCAA generates opportunities, events, and programs on behalf of our members to create:

  • Dialogue among our members, and between the VC community and related industries and economic sectors.
  • Networking events designed to facilitate introductions, connections and generate deal flow among VC industry players and related industries in Alberta and across Canada.
  • A focus on professional development. We produce events and programs through which our members expand their knowledge of VC industry trends, issues and emerging research.
  • Advocacy for venture capital and the critical role it plays in the Alberta economy by conversing with government officials (municipal, provincial and federal), regulatory bodies, media and others on behalf of VCAA members so that they understand the importance of what we do and can make informed decisions that nurture the health of Alberta's VC industry
